I recently had the pleasure of photographing Marie and Stuart’s lovely wedding at the Newton Hotel in Nairn. The weather was a bit ‘hit and miss’ in the Highlands this summer… this was certainly the case on the morning of Marie and Stuart’s big day! I arrived in Nairn in heavy rain and swiftly made my way up to Marie’s room in the Newton Hotel where she and her bridesmaids were getting ready.
Thankfully the rain went off but with the ground conditions still pretty damp, the wedding ceremony was moved to the beautiful surroundings of the hotel chapel. Lesley Simpson conducted a lovely civil ceremony for Marie and Stuart, who looked a bit more relaxed after the formal proceedings were out of the way!
Marie and Stuart had a drinks reception and mingled with their guests, which was a great opportunity for some candid photography. Afterwards, we headed outdoors for some group and family photos in the gardens. The bride and groom then hopped in the back of my car and we headed round to Nairn beach. The conditions were perfect; amazing after such a wet start to the day! The light was lovely and soft and we were able to capture some natural images both down by the shore and in the sand dunes.
Back at the Newton Hotel, there was just enough time for me to photograph the function suite and Marie and Stuart’s lovely table settings, before the guests and bridal party took their seats. Marie and Stuart were piped in before cutting their cake, then the speeches got underway. Later in the evening, Marie and Stuart took to the dance floor for the first time as husband and wife, with their ‘love’ sign forming the perfect backdrop to the photographs.
Congratulations Marie and Stuart and thank you for including me in your special day!
